The BEST New Year's eve I've ever had.
I should most likely start off at the beginning. This all started on Christmas Eve...
On Christmas Eve, I went snowboarding for most of the day, which isn't important at all. When I came home, I called up Sarah and Mark and asked if they wanted to hang. They said yes, so I headed over to Mark's house while Sarah was still at home. Around 5 or 5:30, I left Mark's house because band practice was starting for he and his band-mates. I went home to meet Sarah at my house. Mark was going to meet up with us in Bethesda later. We hung around my house long enough to eat a small dinner. Then, after that, Sarah and I took the bus to Bethesda, where we hung out with Sonya and Cisco. We met up with Sonya at McDonald's, where Tanya and Zina also were. They were pretty stoned I guess. That, or just a bit, Sonya acts crazy anyways. We walked back to Chipotle with them and I texted Mark again, band practice was just ending. When we got back to Chipotle, Sarah ordered a vegetarian burrito bol and I ate some of it. After finishing our food, we left Chipotle and sat around outside. I lit up a cigarrete or two and Sarah bummed one off me. We called Mark again, this time he was on the bus, on his way to Bethesda. It took him an hour of waiting for the bus to get to him in Kensington. We waited a bit more and then finally met him at the bus stop. When he got off, he got to meet Sonya (while she was stoned) and Cisco (he also met him a few times after that, not long enough to get to know each other though). Mark, Sarah, and I left Sonya and Cisco to go in to DC. We took the metro into Dupont Circle, where we walked to Adams Morgan. First, we went into Smash! Records and just hung around there for a while. Sarah and I picked up free stuff sitting on the "free" bench. We got flyers for shows and I also took the book Mark picked up to ask me if it was free. This was were we found out about the New Year's eve show at the Corpse Fortress in Silver Spring. Once we left Smash!, we walked down the street to see if the local coffee shop that served veggie burgers was open. It wasn't. Probably due to it being Christmas Eve and all. We ended up walking back up the street, passed Smash!, up to Amsterdam Falafel Shop. We each bought falafels, which were AMAZING, and just sat there talking, eating falafels, and waiting for my parents to pick us up.
(While in Bethesda another day, we asked a bunch of people if they were going to the show and if they were'nt we invited them. That's how Sonya ended up tagging along.)
So much for that. That sums up how Sarah and I found out about the New Year's eve show and other shows. Now, on to the real thing. New Year's eve.
On New Year's eve, for the day part, I convinced my parents not to take me skiing (well, snowboarding in my case), so I wouldn't be tired for the "eve" part of the day. I called up Mark and asked if he wanted to go to the mall. He agreed. We went and met Sarah there. It wasn't too great, but it passed the time. Mark left after an hour or so to catch the bus so he could go over to Maribeth's house. Sarah and I hung around the mall for a little bit longer and then set off to go wait for the bus with her little sister. Their mom called while we were waiting for the bus and told them that she was coming to pick them up. They left. I waited longer, but the J3 never came, well, maybe it did, I'm not sure. I went inside after waiting for so long, walked around a little, then went back outside again. This time the 47 to Bethesda arrived just as I got to the bus stop. I called up Cisco and asked if he wanted to hang out in Bethesda, as always. He complied. I took the bus to Bethesda and met him in Chipotle. He asked me if I had any cigarettes. I did. So, we went outside for a smoke. We met up with his friend, Griffin, and just chilled in the stairwell by Chipotle. They smoked more in the stairwell, I didn't, I was on the phone with Alex, trying to convince him to come to the show. He never did. We ended up going to Ranger Surplus, Griffin and Cisco bought new beanies. I walked back to Safeway with them and took the 34 Wheaton back home.
Once home, I sat around waited for Sarah and ate dinner. After dinner, which was VERY early, my dad drove us to Bethesda to pick up Sonya. We picked up Sonya in front of Safeway and proceeded to drive to Silver Spring, where my dad dropped us off at McDonald's to meet up with Cate, Joe, Angie, Cate's sister, and her boyfriend. When the finished with their food, we got into Joe's car with all of them and drove to the Corpse Fortress. I kind of laid across the width of the back seat, on top of Sonya, Sarah, and a little bit of Cate. Her sister was sitting on her lap and so was Angie. Joe drove and Cate's boyfriend got shotgun. We got to the house at around 7 o'clock. We paid our $7 and looked around the ground floor. Once more people started to come in, we (as in the people I came there with) moved downstairs. I met some new people and lounged around for about an hour. Sonya went outside with Joe for a little bit of the time to go for a smoke. When we were all back, Sonya started talking to more random people and that's how we ended up meeting Maddi. Angie, Cate, Brendan, Colin, and all those other people were standing around on the outside when Frantic Onslaught came on. They were drinking beer that Roman had gotten a homeless man to buy for him. Sarah and I hadn't taken any yet. Sonya was already stealing some from Roman. Haha. TYPICAL SONYA. When Frantic Onslaught started playing, the crowd in the basement was reletively big. Brendan, Sarah, Colin, Sonya, and I headed into the moshpit. The moshpit was crazy fun. Although, I did managed to get hit in the nose, lip, and cheek, all within the first set. When the set was over, Sarah, Sonya, Cate, Colin, Brendan, and I went outside for a smoke. Colin was spitting out blood because he got punched in the mouth pretty hard, I'm assuming. Some girl, who I do not remember the name of, was taking pictures of his injury. We met Brad at this time. After a little while of sitting outside, Sonya and Sarah started getting cold so they went inside and I followed. We went into the basement again and started talking to more people. We talked to Joe for a bit about his college experiences in Chicago, moved on to talking to Maddi, and got to know her a bit better. When the second band, which was Born Bad, there was yet more people in the basement. It seemed to be a pretty packed night. The moshing was getting more intense, which only means that it gets more fun from there. I got closer to the front and hung to some of the steel I-beams on the ceilling occasionally. I was very close to the performing area. When the second set ended, we socialized more. Cate, Brendan, Joe, Cate's sister, and a couple other people had left this time because they were a bit drunk (not including Cate's sister) and were a bit paranoid of the police coming to the house. Sonya, Sarah, Maddi and I went upstairs to look at the band merchandise on the tables. We also went outside for a short while before deciding it was too windy and cold to stay out long. We came back downstairs before Cokebust started their set. This time, there was yet more people in the moshpit. Maddi got knocked down a couple of times and I helped pull her back up. There was some guy in the moshpit that was moshing with a huge vodka bottle in his hand. I was scared it would break and shatter all over. Luckily, it didn't. Sarah got more into the moshpit. Everyone was a bit sweaty by the time the set was over. Brad, Sonya, and Sarah started talking. I went outside with Maddi for another smoke. She was joyful that I smoked. Most likely because she was one of the few people at her school that smoked. We went inside shortley after to watch Poison Planet. They hadn't started setting up so we talked to Sarah, Sonya, and Brad for a bit. Afterward, one of Roman's friends, Erik, started talking to Maddi and saying how he's seen her before somewhere. He goes on about that for a while before telling her that she's pretty and other stuff like that. While talking he let Sonya, Sarah, and I all drink his beer. He ends up giving her a beer after their talk, that she shared with us. He would get pissed when she shared it with us. It was quite funny, really. We finished up the beer as Poison Planet went on. Maddi fell a couple more times, in which I helped her get up again. Sonya also fell once. I picked her up too. At the end of the set, Roman asked people if anyone wanted to chip in for more beer. I gave him a dollar. Roman and Erik left to go buy more beer. Maddi wants to go, but not with just the two, so she asks me to go along. I do. We walk all the way to the liquer store, which was closed by then. Roman gets pissed. He thought about breaking the glass door and ended up noticing that behind the door there was a metal gate. We ended up going to 7eleven. I bought Arizona Green Tea. We arrived back at the Corpse Fortress as Magrudergrind started playing. Maddi and I hurried downstairs to go watch. I'm not sure where Roman and his friend went. Once back downstairs, I looked around for Sarah and Sonya, but they were nowhere to be found. I texted Sarah and then just said to myself, "Screw it. They'll probably find me later."
In the end, they did find me. Well, I guess I found them. I went upstairs between one song and found Sonya and Brad sitting on the floor eating Chinese food. Sarah and I went back downstairs as a new song came up. The three of us (Sarah, Maddi, and I) moshed. In the moshpit I somehow ended up at the very front, so I held onto the I-beam and watched the band play from there. I got knocked down once, but pulled some other guy next to me down to save myself. Aha. When their set was over, the three of us went back upstairs to find Sonya and Brad. We did and went outside. Roman was looking for Colin, who had already left. He borrowed Sonya's phone to try to contact him. We had to wait outside for Roman to finish. Maddi lost her sweatshirt or whatever in the basement and someone probably stole it, so Roman offered up his since he already had a jacket on. She took it, but later took it off in the house where Sonya took it. We went downstairs again. Sonya told Maddi to spray her pepper spray because she wanted to smell the fucking thing. THAT WAS A TERRIBLE IDEA. The smell burned my nose and it hurt a whole fucking lot. A little bit also got into Sonya's eye. The smell started to waft all over the basement, so we hurried upstairs. Someone else downstairs also ran upstairs to complain about someone spraying Mace in the basement. We acted like we didn't know a thing. We went downstairs again after the smell had cleared out, talked a bit, then went outside for another smoke. This time we just sat in the stairwell and chilled there. (For some reason, I feel that I'm forgetting something) After the smoke, we went back inside and someone suggested that at midnight, for new years, we all make out. Everyone agreed. The making out part started there actually. It wasn't even midnight yet. Hahaha. I made out with Brad, Maddi, and Sonya. We went outside again after that and ended up getting locked out of the basement until it was passed 12 o'clock. We walked around to the front and went inside again. People were passing around Champagne and we all chugged a bit of it. We chilled on the nice couches. They were so comfortable. I sat in a chair with Maddi and the rest of them (Sonya, Sarah, and Brad) all jumped into one chair. When some people started to leave, we migrated over to the nice, green couch. We sat around talked some more until Maddi had to leave. She got picked up by her parent's around 12:30. We just lay around after that. At around 1:15 or so, we walked to 7eleven to get a drink. In 7eleven I called my parents, who were sleeping, to tell them to pick us up (LULZ). We walked to the McDonald's from there because I told my parents to pick us up there. When I got home, I ate my first meal of 2009. It was fried rice and some vegetarian dumplings. I went to sleep at around 3:30 or 4 am.
That was one of the best nights I've had.
This probably wasn't the best re-telling of my story of New Year's eve. Ah well, I tried. I didn't have much time. I should probably be doing my homework that's passed-due.
